Our tutors

We have been going since 2013 and have offices in London and Sri Lanka. Bringing together fully qualified and background checked tutors with teams overseeing tutor training and development, curriculum design and customer support.

Our tutor community

Our children are growing up in a world full of talent, all connected online. At Matr we see this as an opportunity to build a community that can make one-to-one learning more accessible to all, by recruiting and training talented tutors from around the world.

Tutor training & development

We have recruited and trained well over a thousand online maths tutors over the last few years, who, between them, have delivered 500,000 online one-to-one lessons (an average of 500 hours each!)

All tutors pass our online teacher training and safe guarding programmes before they start, and we analyse every session to track and improve their performance.

We are supported by the Institute of Education, the world’s no. 1 teaching training organisation, helping to achieve our goal of delivering the best possible online one-to-one tuition for your child.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will my child be able to see the tutor?2019-01-07T15:34:03+00:00

We have found that children are more engaged when they are able to focus entirely on the maths. This is why your child will only be able to hear the tutor and not see them. Throughout, lessons remain interactive with a focus on children explaining their reasoning.

Will my child have the same tutor for each lesson?2019-01-07T15:29:57+00:00

We understand that building a relationship with a tutor can really impact on a child’s development. This is why we strive to secure the same tutor for every session.

How long is the tuition?2019-01-15T11:30:44+00:00

When you book you’ll be able to select weekly 25-min lessons or 50-min lessons. The 25-min option is best suited for children in lower KS2 (7-8 year olds) whereas the 50-min option is most suitable for upper KS2 (9-11 years old), but you can select either of these options.

For the 25-minute option, the session will last 40 minutes in total, and for the 50-minute option, it will last 65 minutes in total. This is because for the first 10 minutes of the session your child will need to complete an audio and voice check, and a warm-up activity that will help their tutor tailor the lesson. The tutoring lesson will then last for 25 or 50 minutes, depending on the tuition duration you selected when booking. Then, at the end of the session, another 5-10 minutes will be required to complete a quick maths exercise and for your child to answer how it went with their tutor.

Do we follow the national curriculum?2018-10-07T13:06:57+00:00

Yes, our lessons are designed by our curriculum design team who are based in London, and our tutors are trained using a framework designed with the Institute of Education.
